About

Hello and welcome to my blog. I’m just an ordinary lass who has a love of the 1940s, all things Armed Forces erring more towards veterans but above all  I love SEWING. I have far too much fabric and not enough time! Two sewing machines, 3 vintage sewing machines and an overlocker. As for patterns.. don’t even go there!!

I’m a bit of a butterfly in that I flit from one thing to another and don’t always finish off projects for months on end. I’m always looking for something new to try or revisiting a craft I tried long ago as a teenager. Consequently I do pretty much everything from knitting and crochet to tatting and bobbin lacemaking. I’m not good at some things and others I positively hate but I will give anything a go whether the resulting item is useful to me or not.

I recently came across a ‘maker challenge’. My immediate thought was ‘wow where do I sign up’ but the more I looked into it the more I realised it was all a bit out of my league. Most of those taking up the challenge were business people who were creating technology and software and things useful to people on a global scale.. way beyond my wildest dreams. The concept itself did however, inspire me and continues to do so.

The idea is to make a list of things you want to ‘make’ and to make as many things as you can in one year. Whether the things you create are for yourself or for others doesn’t matter. The idea is to do as much as you can to make/create anything that will make someone happy or make the world a nicer place some how. There is no real time limit to each ‘thing’ or number of things to produce, just make it achievable. Start of small and work your way up to the bigger things. The first thing to do is decide what you want to achieve and then make your list. The list is not set in stone and you don’t have to do it in order just cross things off as you complete them and add things on as you think of things or see something that inspires you.  I shall publish and update my list separately. Needless to say one of the things on my list was to publish a blog of all the projects I do… my biggest challenge will be to finish off all the projects I have half done!

So I hope you enjoy my blog and I hope it inspires you to challenge yourself and see how many things you can make/create/do in a year 😀

Oh… And I’ve been living on WW2 Rations for almost a year now for charity… Sound interesting? Well you can check that out on my dedicated Facebook page here: Ration Book Challenge 2015
